A Home Energy Audit consists of a series of tests that can help you to pinpoint the areas where your home is losing energy and identify the things you can do to save money on energy costs. An Energy Audit can also identify health and safety issues that may exist in your home.

Home Energy Audits are comprised of two stages: the initial home assessment and testing process and then the analysis of the resulting data through the use of the software.

A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings.

Air leakage can increase heating and cooling costs by over 30% and contribute to comfort, health, and safety problems. Finding hidden air leakage sites can be difficult without the use of a blower door. Blower doors have gauges that can measure the relative leakiness of a building.

One measure of a home’s leakage rate is air changes per hour (ACH), which estimates how many times in one hour the entire volume of air inside the building leaks to the outside. Leakier houses have higher ACHs, therefore higher heating and cooling costs, and greater potential for moisture, comfort, and health problems.

After you schedule your test, you will receive a pre-test checklist in your confirmation email. Review the checklist to be sure you haven’t missed anything so you can be confident your house is test ready.
